5 vs 7 vs 10 days in Israel

How long do you really need? Day-by-day itineraries for every trip length, with what you can see and what you'll skip.

See itineraries

The most common question first-time visitors ask: "How long do I need in Israel?" Israel is small (22,072 kmΒ², smaller than New Jersey) and well-connected, so you can pack a lot into a short trip β€” but rushing it kills the experience. 5 days covers the essentials: Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. 7 days adds the Dead Sea and Masada β€” what we call the "classic" trip. 10 days opens up Eilat, the Negev Desert, and even a Petra day trip. 14 days adds the Galilee and Haifa for a complete coast-to-coast experience. This guide gives you a real day-by-day for each trip length so you can pick the one that fits your schedule and budget.

Frequently asked questions

Is 5 days enough for Israel?
It's the minimum. You can comfortably do Tel Aviv (2 days) + Jerusalem (2 days) + 1 free day, but you'll skip the Dead Sea, Eilat, the Negev, and the Galilee. If 5 days is your max, focus on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and add a Dead Sea day trip from Jerusalem if possible.
Is 7 days enough for Israel?
Yes β€” 7 days is the sweet spot for a "classic" first trip. You get Tel Aviv (2 days), Jerusalem (2 days), Dead Sea + Masada (1 day), and a free day for Bethlehem or another half-day trip, plus arrival/departure days.
Is 10 days enough for Israel?
Excellent. 10 days lets you add Eilat (with a Petra day trip) and the Negev to the 7-day classic. You'll see most of the country including the major experiences in the south.
Should I do 14 days in Israel?
Only if you want depth or have specific interests (Christian sites, hiking, wine tours). 14 days adds the Galilee (Sea of Galilee, Nazareth, Safed, Golan Heights wineries) and Haifa (BahΓ‘'Γ Gardens). Worth it for second-time visitors or anyone serious about religion, history, or wine.
Can I do Israel in 3 days?
Honestly, no. With arrival and departure days you have one full day, which is enough for a half-day in Old Jerusalem and one beach evening in Tel Aviv. Better to wait until you have at least 5 days. If you have 3, focus exclusively on Jerusalem.
How much does each itinerary cost?
Mid-range estimate (excluding international flight): 5 days = $750–1,250 per person. 7 days = $1,050–1,750. 10 days = $1,500–2,500. Backpacker is roughly half. Luxury is 2–3Γ— higher. See our cost calculator for the breakdown.
